How To Create Online Content That Makes Both Your Readers And The Search Engines Happy
Since the major search engines have become such a ubiquitous part of using the internet, many people are focusing their website’s content strategy around getting a high ranking in the search engines for certain desired keywords. However, sometimes if we put too much of a focus on picking the right keywords and optimizing our content for those keywords, our content will not seem authentic and it will read like it is written for a machine instead of for readers. It is not hard to craft your content, no matter what sort of content you are providing (even if it is images and videos), in a way that will make both your readers happy and the search engines happy.
The key to creating content that accomplishes this goal is quite easy to understand: You will want to work on your content initially with only your readers in mind and give absolutely no thought to the search engines whatsoever. After you have articles, documents, or whatever sort of content you are providing finished and completed, this is the step where you revisit it and make sure that it includes all the keywords and information necessary to make it findable by search engines. If you are providing this content on your own website then this will mean going back and focusing on things like the page titles, meta descriptions and keywords, and also interlinking your different articles and webpages using anchor text that is relevant to the topic of each page.
If you are using a content management system or blog then it will be important to include a number of tags or tag phrases related to your topic so that your article can be found using those keyword terms as well. If you are focusing on content that is not directly on your own website, such as uploading content to an image or video sharing site, you might not have access to things like the meta tags but there is still a lot that you can do to make it show up in a search engine more frequently. Again you will want to make sure there are plenty of relevant tags that describe what your content is about, and many times you will also be able to include a description where you can include certain desired keyword phrases.
When you make the mistake of doing this process in the reverse order, you will actually stifle your opportunities for success because people will notice right away and be alienated by the fact that your content looks like it was written by a robot. It is not hard to form a content strategy for yourself where you make both the search engines and your website visitors happy, all you need to do is start off creating content solely for people and pretend that the major search engines don’t even exist, and then go back and add some of the optimization elements that make it more findable and searchable.
